BLUE MOON CAFE,

617 Putnam Pike (Rt. 44), Chepachet, 568-1030.

This cafe, a nondescript place on the outside, is homey on the inside and decorated in a quarter-moon-and star motif. The evening menu is mostly burgers and grilled pizzas, with a half-dozen dinner platters as well as pastas. The asparagus pesto pizza ($7.50) was thicker than most pizzas, and had roasted red peppers, grilled asparagus spears, and Romano cheese for extra zing. The pasta special ($7.95) was a dreamily creamy concoction of spinach noodles, the leaf itself, portobello mushrooms, a good dose of garlic, a touch of hot red pepper and three cheeses. The two desserts sampled " black-bottom pecan pie and crustless lemon pudding "pie" (both $3.50) " were to die (okay, kill) for.
